Sept 29, 2021

Reminder: No school tomorrow. Classes resume on Friday. Homework: Read for 20 minutes. Daily Learning: Since today was Orange Shirt day we spent most of the day going over Phyllis Webstad's book and also talked about residential schools. We talked about how it must have felt and also what questions we had about the schools. We also did a smudge this morning from 8:30 to 9:30 where elders came and spoke to the school. In gym, we are moving into our soccer unit and our other units will resume back to normal on Friday. jaberry@cbe.ab.ca

 Reminder: Tonight is Meet the Teacher. It will run from 6 to 8pm with two time slots to attend. Friday is a PD Day. Homework: Read for 20 minutes Daily Learning: Students continued to do the Daily 5. We are currently reading the Magnus Chase series and the students are doing their midweek word work. In math, we continue to practice estimating when adding and subtracting. In science we have begun to look at wetlands and in social studies we looked at the Arctic Lowlands yesterday and looked at the Canadian Shield today. jaberry@cbe.ab.ca

Reminder: Meet the Teacher is Thursday night from 6 to 8. Friday is a PD Day Homework: Read for 20 minutes Daily Learning: The Daily 5 continued as usual. The new students in our class went over our expectations for word work. In science we continued our weather watch and went over many aspects of weather. It math we continued our work with representing numbers in a variety of ways. We also had computers where we were able to get everyone into the Google Classroom as well as reinforce math strategies taught in class. jaberry@cbe.ab.ca

Reminders: Our meeting spot is by the basketball net by the field. This is a reminder for all new students to room 18. Homework: Read for 20 minutes.  Daily Learning: The students have been working on learning place value up to the millions as well as representing numbers is different ways. In social studies, we continue to look at Canada's geography, most recently relooked at the 6 different regions of Canada. In science, we have been looking at weather formation and and then difference between weather and climate. Daily 5 continues as usual. Jaberry@cbe.ab.ca

Homework: Read for 20 minutes Reminders: Please bring back any forms that have not been returned to the office. Daily Learning: Today the daily 5 continued as usual. The students were able to do shared/independent reading, practice writing where they practice using specific sentence patterns and word work. The class has now been moved into 4 groups to hopefully make the words more suitable to their needs. In math, we finished looking at some patterns and have moved into looking at place value up to the millions. In science, we completed our first data collection for the weather and in gym compound games continued. jaberry@cbe.ab.ca

Homework: Read for 20 minutes per night. Reminders: Please return any forms that have been sent home. Daily Learning: Today we reminded the students how to login to the computers as well as Mathletics. We also began to look at the history of Canada and it's origins. We also wrote letters to our future selves which we will read in June and we did shared and independent readings. jaberry@cbe.ab.ca

Homework: Read for 20 minutes. Reminders: Please look over and sign the forms sent home today. Please return the grey Digital Citizenship form ASAP so that students can begin to use technology.  Daily Learning: Today the students read independently and with a friend. Going over expectations and building their stamina is an important early step for the students. We also started learning different parts of speech and practiced this using sentence patterns which they used in their practice writing. In social studies, we started looking at our overall theme this year which is Canada and began a cover page for the year. Finally, we started creating our Pillars of Care bulletin board. Ask your child how they will be representing the four Pillars of Care at BHS. jaberry@cbe.ab.ca

Reminders: Students need to have a pair of indoor shoes. This will be especially important once it starts to snow or if there is a big rainfall. Also, Monday September 6th is a holiday.  Homework: Read for 20 minutes per night. Daily Learning: Students have been introduced to shared and independent reading. We also went over COVID protocols and did an art activity where students do a self portrait and attach a mask. We also did a spelling test to assess the level of their vocabulary and a writing prompt to assess their level of writing.  jaberry@cbe.ab.ca
