Reminders: This Friday students may wear their Halloween costumes to school. Homework: Read for 20 minutes. Daily Learning: Today the students re-enforced their multiplication skills by working on 2x1 digit multiplication. We have integrated this in with our area of a rectangle lessons and the students went over a number of strategies they could use when trying to find the answers. In LA, we are finishing up a letter we have been writing and working on proper letter format. In Social studies, we continue to explore the history of Canada and looked into the war of 1812 today. In science, we continued to expand our knowledge on wetland ecosystems and are hoping to be able to visit Confluence park once again to exam how the wetland changes with the seasons. jaberry@cbe.ab.ca

Notice: On Thursday, we will be going to confluence park in the afternoon. It is supposed to be sunny and 16 degrees celcius. We will be looking at the wetland there as well as looking at the natural physical geography of our land.  Homework: Read for 20 minutes. Daily Learning: Today in science we continued to look at wetlands, specifically the students learned about what an ecosystem is and how it relates to their habitiat. In math, we switched gears and have started doing some perimeter which ties in with our addition we did in our whole numbers unit. In social studies, we looked at natural disasters that happen in Canada and reminded students of the floods we had a couple of years ago. In language arts, the students continued with the daily 5 having the opportunity to do both shared and independ reading. They also did free writing (once per week) and listened to our class novel.  jaberry@cbe.ab.ca

Reminders: No school on Monday as it is a PD Day. Tuesday is Picture Day. Homework: Read for 20 minutes. Daily Learning: Today we finished our art project called Radiant Colour Silhouette. This was a fall art project where students learned about blending colours and about silhouettes. Daily 5 continued as usual and the students went on the computers to re-enforce some math strategies taught in class, along with doing a student survey for the school.

Reminder: There is no school on Monday as it is a PD Day. Homework: Study for math whole numbers unit test. A practice test was completed today and was encouraged to be brought home to study. Daily Learning: Today the daily 5 continued as usual. The students wrote about empathy and did shared and independent reading. We continued out novel, Magnus Chase, and we are about halfway through this story. In science, we continued our weather watch as well as talked about habitat's in science. For social studies, students finished their Google Slides on the regions of Canada and shared their end products with Mr. Berry. In the afternoon, we started a new art project around Fall and the students are looking at silhouettes and learning how to blend colours using oil pastels.  jaberry@cbe.ab.ca

Reminders: No school Friday or Monday. Classes will resume on Tuesday. Homework: Read for 20 minutes per night. Daily Learning: Today the students did a science experiment looking at the effects of hot air and what happens when we interact with it. In math, we did a small quiz to see how our addition was progressing and we started looking at subtraction. The daily 5 continued as usual with shared reading, independent reading, read aloud, practice writing and word work.

Reminders: Friday there is no school as it is a PD Day. Also, Monday there is no school because of Thanksgiving. Next week, the first day back is the 12th. Homework: Read for 20 minutes per night. Daily Learning: In math, we have begun looking at addition strategies. We started with basic single digit addition and then moved into regrouping with multi-digit addition. In science, we continue to monitor the weather and tomorrow will be doing an experiment to show the direction of hot air. In social studies, we have almost got through all of the regions of Canada and soon will be doing a Google Slides on one of the regions. In Language Arts, the daily 5 continued as usual. Homework: Read for 20 minutes. Daily Learning: Today the students celebrated our first Pillars of Care Assembly. The class did a great job of explaining which Pillar they showed. We also did independent and shared reading and we moved desks. Once a month, we will move desks to keep our learning environment fresh. In Social Studies, we continued to learn about the early years in Canada and the students had music with Mr. Wiens today.
