Mr. Berry's Grade 5 Class

Homework: Read for 20 minutes per night. Daily Learning: Today the students started a few new units. We have started looking at statistics and probability and the difference between first and second hand data. In our writing, we are starting to do opinion writing and we started by getting the students to pick whether dogs or cats were better and then they had to defend their position. The daily 5 continued and the students continued their work in Robocoding.  I hope everyone had a great Spring Break! jaberry@cbe.ab.ca

Reminder: Next week is Spring Break. Homework: Finish your Hero's Journey if not already done. Daily Learning: Today we had our Pillars of Care award ceremony. We also finished our electricity unit and had time on the computer to finish our writing. We have started the next Storm Runner novel and will continue it after the break. Reminder: No school tomorrow due to P/T interviews. Homework: Read for 20 minutes per night. Daily Learning: Today was the second day of the Calgary Safety Expo. We got a tour through the Telus Convention center as well as learned about what ambulance drivers do. In math we continued to work on our Algebra and the unit test has now been moved to next week to give students some extra practice. In social studies, we talked about the NW Mounted Police and how they began around the time of the Klondike gold rush. Dailiy 5 continued as usual. Reminder: Parent/Teacher interviews this Thursday and Friday. No school Friday. Homework: Read for 20 minutes. Daily Learning: Students continued to work on their electrifying board games. They also have started review for their algebra unit test which will be this Thursday. They started Robocoding, a program we will be doing for the next 13 weeks. Daily Learning: Today the students continued their work in algebra, solving for missing variables in word problems. We also looked at the benefits of moving out west when Canada was first formed. In math, we continue to work on solving for missing variables, now with multiplication and division involved. In social studies, the students working on answering important questions about contributions of certain communities to the development of the Canadian identity and in science, the students are getting ready for a science test which will be this Friday. The daily 5 continues as usual.
